Day 1
Arrive Lima
Transfer to Miraflores. Evening on the clifftop above the Pacific.

Lima
The colonial centre, the catacombs at San Francisco, and Larco Museum. Lima is one of the best eating cities anywhere — we book accordingly.

Lima to Cusco
Fly to 3,400m. A deliberately empty afternoon — coca tea, no exertion. Altitude is the thing that spoils this trip when rushed.

Sacred Valley
Down to lower altitude at Pisac and Ollantaytambo, which also helps you acclimatise.

Day 5
Maras and Moray
The salt terraces and the circular Inca agricultural terraces. Overnight in the valley.

Machu Picchu
Train to Aguas Calientes and up early. Guided circuit, then time alone with it before the day crowds arrive.

Cusco
Back up to the city. Sacsayhuaman, Qorikancha and the San Pedro market.

Cusco to Lima
Fly back. Last afternoon and dinner in Lima.
