Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives?
No advance visa is needed — Indian passport holders are given the Maldives tourist visa on arrival, without pre-approval, if they meet the entry requirements: a machine-readable passport valid for at least one month, confirmed return tickets, a prepaid confirmed booking at a registered resort or guesthouse, sufficient funds, and an IMUGA Traveller Declaration submitted within 96 hours before arrival.

Is the IMUGA Traveller Declaration mandatory for the Maldives?
Yes — every foreigner arriving in the Maldives, including Indian tourists and children, must submit their own Traveller Declaration on the official IMUGA portal, imuga.immigration.gov.mv, within 96 hours before arrival. Maldives Immigration says it is completely free, and warns against websites or individuals that charge a fee to submit it.

Do Indian tourists pay the Green Tax in the Maldives?
Yes — like all tourists, Indians pay the Maldives Green Tax for each day of their stay, charged by the place they stay. Since 1 January 2025 it is USD 12 per tourist per day at resorts, hotels, guesthouses and tourist vessels, or USD 6 at hotels and guesthouses on inhabited islands with 50 or fewer registered rooms. Children under two at check-in are exempt.

Are there direct flights from Mumbai to the Maldives?
Yes — IndiGo flies daily non-stop from Mumbai to Malé's Velana International Airport, a flight of about 2 hours 40 to 50 minutes depending on the season. It is the only airline flying the route non-stop; KLM and Air France sell seats on it as codeshares.

Can you use UPI in the Maldives?
Not yet in shops, hotels or resorts. The Favara–UPI link that went live on 30 July 2026 lets customers of Bank of Maldives and Maldives Islamic Bank send person-to-person transfers to UPI-linked accounts in India, for family-maintenance and gift remittances only. The Maldives Monetary Authority says QR-based merchant payments will follow in a later phase, without a date.
