Half board, transfers, sightseeing — the words are doing a lot of quiet work. Here is how to read a quote properly.
Two quotes for the same destination can differ substantially and both be honest. The difference is almost always sitting in the inclusion list, and it is worth ten minutes of reading before you compare the totals.
"Transfers"
Ask whether they are private or shared. A shared transfer in Bali or Phuket can mean waiting at the airport for a full vehicle and then four hotel drop-offs before yours. On our quotes, transfers are private unless stated otherwise.
"Sightseeing"
This can mean a guided tour with entry tickets, or it can mean a driver who takes you to the gate and waits in the car park while you buy your own ticket. Both are legitimate. They are not the same product.
"Half board"
Breakfast and one other meal, usually dinner, usually from a set menu rather than à la carte. In remote locations — a Maldivian island, a safari camp, Bhutan — check what a meal outside the plan costs before deciding to skip it.
"Deluxe room"
A hotel-specific marketing term with no standard meaning. We tell you the actual category name the hotel uses and what the view is, because "deluxe" at one property is the entry-level room and at another it is the third tier up.
The exclusions matter more
Read that list first. It tells you what you will be paying for on top, and a short exclusion list usually means an incomplete one rather than a generous package.
