Day 1
Arrive Rome
Transfer to your hotel. Evening walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.

Ancient Rome
Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill in the morning; the Pantheon and Piazza Navona in the afternoon.

Vatican City
The Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica. Afternoon free in Trastevere.

Rome to Naples and Amalfi
Train south, then along the coast to Positano or Sorrento. Optional Pompeii on the way.

Amalfi coast
Amalfi and Ravello by road or boat, with the cliff views that make the drive worth the hairpins.

To Florence
Fast train north. Afternoon at the Duomo, the Baptistery and the Ponte Vecchio.

Florence and Pisa
The Uffizi and the Accademia for Michelangelo's David, with an optional afternoon in Pisa.

Florence to Venice
Train to Venice. St Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace and a gondola through the back canals.
